Hello, hello!
Six years ago, I started writing the Shred Girls series. I heard from girls and parents from all over the world about what the books meant to them. I heard from young women athletes who were intrigued by the idea of writing books. And to be honest with you all, I heard a lot of ‘No’s’ from big publishers who said that sport-related books for middle grade and young adult girls don’t sell.
Six years later, I’m more determined than ever to prove them wrong. I know that books about girls in sport can sell. And I’m going all-in on that bet.
Enter Strong Girl Publishing.
Strong Girl Publishing’s mission is two-fold:
Help girls see themselves in sport and outdoor adventure, inspiring them to try new activities by creating engaging stories around girls in sport
Make a space for young women athletes who are looking for a platform to share their voices
Our authors (in addition to myself, Shred Girls author Molly Hurford) are all young women athletes. We believe that young women athletes are perfectly positioned to share authentic, real experiences—often through fiction!—and motivate others to try new sports as a result.
Our readers don’t have to be athletes to enjoy our books—in fact, that’s why I started the Shred Girls series in the first place! My goal was to show any girl (or boy!) reading the books that anyone can ride bikes… and that being an athlete doesn’t mean losing other parts of your identity in the process.
I hope you’ll stick around on this new, really exciting chapter—we have so much great content coming in the next few months!
And for those of you who’ve been around since the first Shred Girl book hit the shelves, thank you. I can’t tell you how much it means to me.
