Happy Holidays from the Shred Girls! ⛄🚲
SHRED GIRLS HANGOUTS
Hey Shred Girls—
First of all, huge HAPPY HOLIDAYS from me and the Shred Girls. I hope you're having a safe, fun holiday break.
But let's talk winter. Not going to be able to get outside to ride on the roads or trails much this winter? That’s OK: There’s plenty you can do inside right now to get stronger for next season!
Try meditation
I know, I know. Meditation sounds sooooo boring. But it’s worth trying—I promise it’ll make you a better, calmer cyclist who isn’t ruffled when something goes wrong on a ride, or at a race start. (Check out Headspace for a free trial and learn the basics, or use a free app like Oak to get going!)
Learn to cook a healthy dish
This is your chance to get in the kitchen and experiment! Remember our nutrition basics: make sure your plate contains veggies, a carb, some protein and some healthy fats!
A Shred Girls (Very Simple) Guide to Sports Nutrition:
Practice bike skills in the backyard
Good news: you can totally practice bike skills in a tiny space. I know mountain bikers who’ve gone months without being on trails but learned to log hop by using a curb in the parking lot!
Can’t get outside at all? Work on your skills on the trainer. You can easily work on things like clipping in and out of your shoes, taking your water bottle in and out of the holder, things like that.

Try yoga
You know I love yoga as a great cross-training option! You can find a whole video right here to get you started.
Clean out your gear closet
You never know what jerseys or shorts are lurking at the back of your closet or drawers, so do a cleanout! You may find some old gear that you can give to a friend who’s just getting into riding. And ask for some help learning basic bike maintenance if you don’t already know how to clean your bike and chain, or change a tire!
Read an inspiring book
Obviously, we’re hoping that you’re already reading the Shred Girls series, but there are tons of awesome books out there about girls crushing it in sport. (A Mighty Girl has a big list here!)
Make plans with friends
Maybe it won’t be IRL right now, but can you hop on Zwift island for a virtual ride with a friend, or do a Zoom yoga session together?
XO,
Molly (and Lindsay, Ali and Jen!)

ABOUT ALI'S ROCKY RIDE: In the follow-up to LINDSAY’S JOYRIDE, the Shred Girls reunite at Ali’s home for a mountain-biking training trip that builds up to an elite competition! Even though Ali grew up on the mountain biking with her professional-biker older brothers, she’s anxious. Her brothers always make her feel like she’s not talented enough. Could they be right? She’ll just have to find out.
