THE OUTDOOR EDIT NEWSLETTER
Hellooooooo!
It's 'officially' the holiday season this week, and when I ran through downtown in Collingwood, ON, last week, the Christmas tunes were already blaring from the street speakers, and we just missed catching the Santa Claus parade as we ran our errands. I know, groan, the holiday season starts earlier and earlier every year, but I can't help but get caught up in it. I love the lead up to the New Year, the corniness of holiday movies and making resolutions. (Canadian Cycling's editor asked me to write their 2020 feature article around Resolutions, and I am SO excited that they approved my tongue-in-cheek idea for the Makeover Montage issue. Because no matter how cheesy we feel like resolution-setting is, let's admit it: The idea of making a change, having that makeover moment, is pretty darn alluring.)
But before we hit resolution season too hard, let's talk about the here + now!
XO,
Molly
GIFT GUIDES
I love a good list, and gift guides are kind of my favorite thing to write, because a) I love gift-giving, b) I love being able to put together things that I've really loved over the year that don't necessarily go together, but are all just really fun things, and c) I enjoy putting together guides that I think are different from the ones found on most sites. This year, I tried to avoid things that had sizes associated with them, since I hate when people try to buy me gear and guess the right size, and I looked for things that ran the gamut in terms of price. And more are coming—foodie, cyclist and a bunch of Shred Girl cycling discipline-specific guides will be out in the next two weeks.
STEWING ON...
Stew. Over on Outside's website, I did a roundup of Athlete-Friendly Stew Recipes for the Cold Days Ahead. I'm a pretty big fan of the 'kitchen sink' stew, personally. Last week, we used our Instant Pot to make a bone broth (bones are super cheap from most butchers!) and then used that as a base to use up some old veggies that were going limp in the fridge, freezerburned frozen ones, and almost-finished spices and bags of dried beans as we cleaned out the kitchen. The result? Nothing fancy, but super nutrient dense and tasty soup!
ARE BLOGS DEAD?
I was pondering this as I looked over my site and realized how much it's changed over the year: I used to write daily blog entries about what was going on with me, my race reports, et cetera. Now, I talk in more general terms, aiming to provide service, not just talk about my life. I kind of miss getting into the weeds though, so I decided to start a monthly 'check in' about what's been going on, mostly in my head. Check it out and let me know what you think! This month: November Check-In
