A Very Shred Girls Gallery from the Cyclocross World Cup at Waterloo
We were at the Cyclocross World Cup at Waterloo—the Trek Bikes factory in Wisconsin’s backyard—this past weekend and it was so cool seeing so many riders I’ve profiled, and talking to so many girls who’ve been reading Shred Girls: Lindsay’s Joyride! I’ll have more from the weekend (watch out for an interview with the amazing Maghalie Rochette!) but for now, check out this extremely muddy gallery of the elite women’s race at the Cyclocross World Cup at Waterloo, and read about these Real Life Shred Girls who were in the race: You’re Going to Want to Listen to This Podcast on Cyclocross, Goals, and Nutrition with Ellen Noble Real Life Shred Girl: Kelly Lawson Jenn Jackson is an XC MTBing Shred Girl—and Canada’s U23 National Champ! New Swag Alert! New Designs + Styles in the Shred Girls Shop
In case you missed it, the Shred Girls online store has been growing with new designs, new styles and new colors for old favorites. So, what’s new? Check it out! (And as usual, all proceeds from any sales go directly back into making this site possible—we don’t have any ads or sponsored content, so this is the best way to support the Shred Girls continuing to post information, interviews, tips and tricks!) New Shred Girls t-shirt design This design by Alex Carlson is one of my absolute favorites—she did it for the launch of Shred Girls: Lindsay’s Joyride and it’s PERFECT with the book and if you need a little confidence boost to work on your jumps. (And it is SUPER soft.) Get it here. …And it’s available in a onesie! Because we need to prep the next generation of tiny shredders. Get it here New colors for the Shred Girls classic T I know, I know—not everyone loves black. So, the classic Shred Girls tshirt is now available on a super soft tshirt in rust, blue, purple, pink and more! Get it here Ride Bikes Get Rad Tank Top I love a tank top for running and gym time, and now that most of us are in the offseason, the timing is perfect. This is a unisex tank, and Rune Creative’s amazing design is still a favorite for me. Get it here Ride BIkes Get Rad Towel For post-muddy race, post-ride wipe-downs, dorm life, or actual beach time—this has been my go-to all summer, and it works on the beach but also as a great shower towel, which is key for me. A towel that can actually absorb water but work at the beach? YES. Get it here. \\\\

A Very GRiT-y Gallery From PA NICA’s Girl’s MTB Camp
Last month, I was able to spend a weekend with 45 amazing young women at the GRiT (Girls Riding Together) camp that NICA’s PA League ran. I watched girls learn how to wheelie, tackle new obstacles, practice remounts, dismounts and handstands in a field, and sit in circles talking about EVERYTHING, from riding tips to school goals to feelings on feminism and personal style. It was legitimately one of the most magical weekends of my life, and I wanted to share some of the images from the camp! Do you wish you had a camp like this to attend? Let us know in the comments… A similar Shred Girls camp isn’t out of the question for 2020! View this post on Instagram How far could you skid this cardboard? NICA’s GRiT Girls Know How to Shred! Meet Madeline Clancy
This is the first of many interviews from the Pennsylvania MTB NICA League’s amazing GRiT (Girls Riding Together) camp that they hosted a few weeks ago in PA. I was lucky enough to go and got a chance to meet so many incredible girls with fantastic advice to share, so stay tuned for even more awesomeness… but for now, let’s get started by meeting 13-year-old Madeline Clancy! How did you get started riding? I’ve been riding for two years. My one friend was talking about it, and convinced me to go out for a ride on the trail. I liked it, so I joined a team! Does your family ride? They didn’t, but I got them into it and now, both my parents coach, and my five-year-old brother just went on his first singletrack ride. What made you love it? It was just so fun. The rush, especially going downhill, is amazing. You’re just free. View this post on Instagram How far could you skid this cardboard? The @pamtbrace GRiT camp has some amazing skills tests for the girls and I LOVE this one! #moregirlsonbikes #shredgirls @nationalmtb A post shared by Shred Girls (@shred.girls) on Aug 26, 2019 at 5:26am PDT Favorite part? I like climbs because you get to push yourself, and I’m really proud when I do make it up to the top. But I love downhill too! Advice for climbing? Practice A LOT. And try not to stop. A kid on my team kept telling me to just keep pushing because I would stall out in the middle of climbs because I’d stop pedaling, and that advice really helped. Advice for downhills? At first I was scared, so I would hold the brakes. Then I realized it was a lot more fun if I just let go! Least favorite part? There are some days when I’m not in the mood, my lungs hurt, I get tired… But there aren’t many of those! Advice for making friends in cycling? Just go up and talk to people, especially ones on your team. Ask the people you do know to introduce you to other people. I’ve had people on my team try to teach me, but here, I finally figured it out. I just practiced for two hours in the field until I figured it out. I realized for me, I need to stand up as I push off, then sit on the saddle when I’ve gotten up to that balance point. Proudest moment? I got third at one of the races this year. It was really hard, there were all kinds of rocks and roots, but I just managed to stay strong. I want to get better at endurance and keeping up a pace so I can do longer races!
