THE OUTDOOR EDIT NEWSLETTER
Hellooooooo!
Hard to believe that as I'm writing this, it's already August. (And as I write that, I'm reminded that almost every time I start one of these updates, I'm wondering how the heck the last two weeks disappeared...). I find August is a weird month—summer is still in full swing, and as a kid, August was the month we had our family vacation. But as a bookworm/nerd, August was also when the countdown to back to school (and, OK, back to school shopping for new notebooks and backpacks) started. It's also when seasons shift from running and triathlon and MTB to cyclocross. So it's a confusing emotional time for me, really. Anyone else feeling that? The tug towards fall and 'back to school' (whatever that looks like for you) versus eking every last drop out of summer?
ANYWAY. Let's talk about what's new and exciting!
XO,
Molly

INTROVERTS CRAVING EXTROVERT TIME
A few weeks ago, I found myself working on an article after a girls' night with some friends: "An Introvert Reminder: You Might Still Need Extroverted Social Time." The article was prompted by the fact that since we've been home most of the summer, I had settled into an extremely hermit-like existence, and while it started out as uber-productive, it quickly took a turn for the lazy. After a night with a few friends, I felt rejuvenated in a way that my introverted nature never could have imagined, and since then, I've been making sure I see people at least a couple times a week—not working in an office means it's easy to go days at a time only seeing Peter! I also started setting Skype dates with other people in similar fields to me, where we chat about normal catching-up stuff but also what's going on with us and work. It's been such a huge boost to my psyche and my productivity!

TRAVEL FOOD BOX
If you're on the road a lot, I highly recommend putting together a food bag or box for yourself / your family. Ours is very much long-term travel/AirBNB/camping focused, and I go into detail about what's in it here, but yours could look completely different. You might want to start with some reusable plastic containers/coffee mugs/water bottles/silverware to cut down on your plastic use when getting takeout. You might want to add more easy-to-eat snacks for the kids. You might realize that a cutting board and knife would really help you and the family eat a little healthier on the road, since you could quickly chop and prep veggies with hummus. It's amazing what a little bit of preparation can do—I think it's the Girl Scout in me that loves having all the gear on hand to make up a quick dinner (or roadside coffee) at any time.
