What's in Your Bag? SO MUCH NEW STUFF! | The Outdoor Edit Newsletter
THE OUTDOOR EDIT NEWSLETTER
Hellooooooo!
Lots going on here at The Outdoor Edit... specifically, a TON of new content! In particular, two new weekly columns, 5 Tips + What's in Her Bag, but a bunch of other articles going up on a daily basis. This summer is all about a big push on the site in terms of how much content is there and really trying to reach a wider audience, so if you're enjoying any of the articles, do me a huge favor and share around, forward to friends, post on your social, shout it from rooftops, whatever!
2 housekeeping notes: If you bought Shred Girls: Lindsay's Joyride, do me a solid and pop over to Amazon to rate and review? (You don't have to have bought it on there to review!) AND if you're interested in going somewhere sunny to put in a week of base miles this winter, Smart Athlete Coaching and I are putting together a couple of training camps. We're still debating locale, timing and exact type of riding, so if you're interested in a week of sunny riding with rad people, take 5 seconds and fill out this super quick Google Form.
ANYWAY. Let's talk about what's new and exciting!
XO,
Molly
WHAT'S IN YOUR BAG?
I'm obsessed. Remember those articles that were huge in the early 2000s, the 'what's in XYZ celebrity purse'? For years, I've wanted to see a more athletic version of that, but keeping a bit of the fashion/lifestyle element alive in it. Finally, I realized if I wanted to see it done, I had to just make it happen. So, I emailed a few of the most stylish, badass athletes I know and got a peek in their bags. There are going to be new bags (race day, gym, work, running, cycling, grocery, etc.) featured every week, and I figured it made sense to start with my own bag to kick it off: What’s In Her Bag: My Everyday Work + Errand Backpack. (Have an athlete's bag you'd love to take a peek in? Shoot me a message and I'll try to make it happen!)
TOP CYCLING TIPS
From fueling for the work you're doing to finding the right saddle for you to beginner mindset to the pieces of gear you *actually* need for year-round cycling, I pulled together the top 5 things I would tell any cyclist. (Read them here: My Top 5… Cycling Tips)
'RANGE' IS YOUR NEW BEACH READ
OK, so it's not a bodice-ripping romance, but “Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World” by David Epstein is a really interesting book and it's July’s Athletic Bookworms Read. I'm also super stoked that we're having David on the Consummate Athlete Podcast in a couple weeks, so the timing for reading Range is perfect. The concept—that generalization trumps specialization—might sound a little 'great, but WTF do I do with this information' but it's shockingly relevant... especially if you're an athlete who knows that things like strength training and yoga are theoretically good but you chronically skip doing them in favor of the one sport that you prefer.
