THE OUTDOOR EDIT NEWSLETTER
Hellooooooo!
It feels like summer is finally almost here—I think every day this week, I've been able to run in shorts and it feels gooooood. For me, getting through my first race and the book launch has led to a pretty big come-down the last week and a half. While I'm still plugging away at work and training, I definitely needed the time at home just chilling... so when my choice this weekend was to race 25K or run 22 miles on trails at home, I immediately knew that my body just wanted the long, chill trails (well, as chill as 22 miles of running ever is). I'm trying to not freak about my racing calendar or what's next on that, despite being in the best trail running condition I've ever been in, and that's a weird feeling for me. Anyone else have those periods: race-ready, but without the urge to actually hit the start line? I don't think it's a bad thing!
ANYWAY. Let's talk about what's new and exciting!
XO,
Molly
RACE COMING UP?
I've been talking to a lot of women lately who are signed up this summer for something completely new for them. For some, it's a first race EVER, and for others, it's a new kind of adventure, like my good friend who's racing a 4-hour MTB race instead of the usual 60-70 minute races she does. Over on The Outdoor Edit, I just talked about some tips I've realized from my recent 50K trail run, and some tips I wish someone told me ahead of my first triathlon. And if those aren't for you, but you're trying a new race, we have a whole podcast episode about that first race of the season!
FEMALE VISIBILITY IN CYCLING
On the new WISEAN (Women in Sport and Exercise Academic Network) podcast, I talked about increasing visibility of girls in cycling and where women in sports science are right now—what the research is missing, what we need more of, and how we can bring research into real world. It's a really different conversation for me, and it was really fun to get into new topics like this!

START ACTING
"In the most basic terms, what we need to do is start acting and risking and failing, and stop mumbling and apologizing and prevaricating. It isn’t that women don’t have the ability to succeed; it’s that we don’t seem to believe we can succeed, and that stops us from even trying."
