THE OUTDOOR EDIT NEWSLETTER
Hellooooooo!
I'm breathing a HUGE sigh of relief because today marks me being home for over a week, and Peter getting home after his last long coaching camp of the season. We've been pretty much on the move since the day after Christmas (and holy $hit, guys, it is APRIL today), so the time here is welcome.
As usual, I bought new houseplants. I predict they might last 4-5 weeks, if I'm lucky.
Since it's been two weeks since the last edition of the newsletter, let's dive right in!
XO,
Molly
PS: As always, we're on the lookout for more questions for our training and nutrition Q&A episodes of The Consummate Athlete Podcast! Respond here with any questions: there's no question too general OR too specific!
ALL ABOUT RACE WEIGHT
I have a few articles coming on this topic but since it's a pretty hot take right now, I wanted to dive into it with an expert I know knows all about that fine line of smart racing weight and detrimental questing for race weight: Lori Nedescu, a registered dietician at Hungry For Results AND a professional cyclist for Femme Equipe. So, someone who knows about the nutrition side and who also understands the racing side of the equation... I find that often, nutrition experts just don't understand power-to-weight and cyclists don't always have the best/wisest nutrition advice to give. Lori's advice, on the other hand, is solid gold. Do yourself a favor and listen to the episode... and share with a friend!
KONDO YOUR NUTRITION
Everyone is obsessed with culling their closets and spring cleaning, and I do already have a great post on how to Kondo your athletic gear, but what about your kitchen and your nutrition? A few quick tips on how to apply the life-changing magic of tidying up to how you eat, on a whole lot of levels.
KILLER SOURDOUGH RECIPE
In December, I wrote an article on DIY fermentation for Outside mag, but didn't get the chance to include this delicious and amazing sourdough bread recipe from my good friend Karlee in the mix—it's just about the most basic sourdough recipe I've seen, but has TONS of easy, practical advice that makes it *almost* foolproof. I'm working on it.
WHEY PROTEIN
If you're looking for a tasty whey protein (or a vegan option) to add to your pantry, I have a few that I really love. Lately, I've been really digging Klean Athlete as a brand for their rigorous testing standards and their super tasty whey protein isolate. (And their delicious melatonin spray, but that's a whole other post.) I love whole foods but TBH, sometimes, a bottle of water with protein powder mixed in is what I have time for, and I prefer a good source, not a generic one off Walmart shelves. So, I highly recommend checking Klean Athlete out, and here's wh(e)y.
