Sneaky Veggies, Introvert Tips + Growing MTB | The Outdoor Edit Newsletter
THE OUTDOOR EDIT NEWSLETTER
Hellooooooo!
You may have noticed that I didn't send out a newsletter last Monday---after a ton of thought, with everything going on with the Shred Girls book launch in May and a hectic travel schedule, I decided that I'm shifting this newsletter to be every other week instead of hitting your inbox every Monday. All killer, no filler. I might go back to weekly, but right now, I really want to make sure that TheOutdoorEdit.com itself is continuously posting new content (at least 5 articles every week on there!) and in order to do that, something had to get toned down a teensy bit.
I also admit, that decision came when I was at the ENCXQuest, Ellen Noble's week-long training camp for young women, and the 12 kickass girls that were there really made me think a bunch about what really matters about how I spend my time. Things like that are super important to me, and so is providing really great content, so to keep this newsletter thoughtful and hopefully super useful, I think this is the way to go.
So enough about that... what's interesting/fun/noteworthy right now.
XO,
Molly
PS: As always, we're on the lookout for more questions for our training and nutrition Q&A episodes of The Consummate Athlete Podcast! Respond here with any questions: there's no question too general OR too specific!
ATHLETIC IDENTITY + BODY IMAGE
Danelle Kabush is one of the smartest athletes/sports psychs that I know and having her on the Consummate Athlete Podcast for a second time talking about all things athletic identity AND body image was huge. Whether you're a masters guy, a mom of a teen girl, a middle-aged woman or a pre-teen, this episode has something for you so PLEASE give it a listen!
GOING BAREFOOT
Ya'll know I live in the VivoBarefoot brand of shoes, whether I'm walking or running. And I've had a few questions about making the transition from running in normal sneakers to barefoot, so I put together a few of my best thoughts over here. Main idea? Most people start into barefoot with running, when really running is the last thing we should shift to in living that barefoot life!
EASY VEGGIES
A while back, I wrote a post with a few of my 'sneaky easy' vegetable recipes, like my pico de gallo/guac mashup. I have no idea why, but this is literally the most popular food that I make, and I make a fair amount of food. The girls at the Quest devoured it and asked for the (crazy-simple) recipe, so I figured I'd share it here as well. It's simple, light and perfect for bringing to parties with chips, or eating with eggs for breakfast, potatoes for dinner or topping a salad at lunch.
GIRLS IN MTBING
LOVE this article in the NYT by one of my favorite writers, AC Shilton, about girls in mountain biking. You have to give the whole thing a read and share: Building Grit in Girls Through Mountain Biking
... And on the note of getting more girls on bikes, if you pre-order Lindsay's Joyride (out May 7!), email me the receipt and I'll send you a signed Shred Girls postcard + Shred Girls bike frame stickers... and if you share it with a friend, let me know and I'll send you even more stickers!!
INTROVERT TRAVEL
If you're reading this newsletter, you know it's been a really hectic travel season for me lately, and one where I've had very little down time where we weren't living with other people. As an introvert, I love people and take great joy and pride in coaching and speaking, but I re-energize by spending time alone, so it can be really exhausting for me when I have back-to-back camps. I know I'm not the only introvert who spends most of her time in public settings, so I put together a few of my best tips for introverts on the road/traveling a ton. I'd love to hear from any of you who've figured out other solutions as well!

"Shred Girls: Lindsay's Joyride" is an empowering new series from the cyclist who runs Shred-Girls.com is guaranteed to give readers an adrenaline rush--and the confidence girls gain from participating in sports. It's time to ride and save the day!
Lindsay can't wait to spend her summer break reading comics and watching superhero movies--until she finds out she'll be moving in with her weird older cousin Phoebe instead. And Phoebe has big plans for Lindsay: a BMX class at her bike park with cool-girl Jen and perfectionist Ali. Lindsay's summer of learning awesome BMX tricks with new friends and a new bike turns out to be more epic than any comic book--and it's all leading up to a jumping competition. But some of the biker boys don't think girls should be allowed to compete in BMX. Now it's up to Lindsay, Jen, and Ali to win the competition and prove that anyone can be great at BMX.
