THE OUTDOOR EDIT NEWSLETTER
Hellooooooo!
I'm guessing a lot of you spent the weekend watching cyclocross World Championships—me too! We had to replay the women's race (SANNE!!!!) at dinner last night because we were at Joyride150 Bike Park for Women's Weekend, but that is literally the only reason I would ever skip watching that race in real time. It was a bummer to not actually be at Worlds, of course, but I have to say, sometimes, watching online is actually better for seeing WTF is going on in the race.
So, I'll keep this short and sweet: Lots of travel advice here, because that's on my mind lately, but some other fun stuff for those not hitting the road!
As always, we're on the lookout for more questions for our training and nutrition Q&A episodes of The Consummate Athlete Podcast! Respond here with any questions: there's no question too general OR too specific!
...OK, onto what I'm digging this week.
XO,
Molly
FOR HEALTHY LOOOOONG FLIGHTS
We had one overnight flight to get home from CA, and I'm heading into another one next week to go coach another camp, so I'm taking my own advice and packing smart for the plane ride. I had OK sleep on the flight home from CA, but since we didn't plan to take a red-eye, we got rebooked, it wasn't my perfectly organized flight. My best advice right here!
MY CLOTHING STAPLES
I've written over on TheOutdoorEdit about my cycling capsule wardrobe recently, and that got me thinking about what my everyday capsule wardrobe looks like, so of course, I started to write it up! I love fashion and I admit, I own waaaay more clothing than I need, but I'll be honest, I'm almost always wearing the same few things, with key features being extreme comfort, neutral colors, and clothing longevity/ease of cleaning (i.e can be hung up to dry if there's no dryer and won't lose its shape). Read the whole list here!
STAYING HEALTHY DURING BASE
I feel like in February, staying healthy is the name of the game. Because I'm about to coach another camp and I'm personally working on my base right now, avoiding getting sick/being well-recovered is HUGE for me right now, so I'm trying to take my own advice—sleeping more, eating smart, doing prehab things like foam rolling...
SPREAD THE CYCLING LOVE
Lots of really fun launch stuff starting to pick up for "Shred Girls: Lindsay's Joyride", which hits shelves on May 7! If you pre-order the book, email me the receipt and I'll send you a signed Shred Girls postcard + Shred Girls bike frame stickers... and if you share it with a friend, let me know and I'll send you even more stickers!!
EARLY START ON ATHLETIC BOOKWORMS FEBRUARY PICK
OK, I know: a cookbook for the Athletic Bookworms read for February, WTF? I had the same thought when I first got Run Fast. Cook Fast. Eat Slow.: Quick-Fix Recipes for Hangry Athletes by Shalane Flanagan out of the library a couple weeks ago. I skimmed through the first few pages, then started taking screenshots of recipes, really getting into it...but more than the recipes, I was loving the narration that went along with them (though the recipes were so good, it was one of those, '$hit, I'm taking pictures of every page' moments). Get it now and start cooking: I'll mention it again later this month but my challenge to you: I'd love to see us all actually getting in the kitchen and cooking! If you do get this book and make a meal, post it on Instagram and hashtag #AthleticBookworms (and tag me, @mollyjhurford) and at the end of the month, I'll send you my nutrition book plus a few of my favorite not-made-from-scratch athlete snacks!

ABOUT SHRED GIRLS: Lindsay's Joyride
An empowering new series from the cyclist who runs Shred-Girls.com is guaranteed to give readers an adrenaline rush--and the confidence girls gain from participating in sports. It's time to ride and save the day!
Lindsay can't wait to spend her summer break reading comics and watching superhero movies--until she finds out she'll be moving in with her weird older cousin Phoebe instead. And Phoebe has big plans for Lindsay: a BMX class at her bike park with cool-girl Jen and perfectionist Ali. Lindsay's summer of learning awesome BMX tricks with new friends and a new bike turns out to be more epic than any comic book--and it's all leading up to a jumping competition. But some of the biker boys don't think girls should be allowed to compete in BMX. Now it's up to Lindsay, Jen, and Ali to win the competition and prove that anyone can be great at BMX.
