Cycling Capsule Wardrobes, 50% Off Book Deal + a Question For You About 'Perfectionism' | The Outdoor Edit Newsletter
THE OUTDOOR EDIT NEWSLETTER
Hellooooooo!
It's our last week in CA so things are feeling a little hectic: I just shipped my bike back to the East Coast to avoid getting hit with a huge bike fee on this leg, so I spent the first part of this week working like a maniac at night so I would have time to ride long in the mornings to squeeze out every last sunny mile. Now, it's all about those last few hikes and runs. But I am excited to get back and hop on some XC skis for a bit—and to go to the Joyride150 Women's Weekend in Toronto this weekend! (Anyone else going to be there?)
Anyway, we got some amazing questions from you for our training and nutrition Q&A episodes of The Consummate Athlete Podcast—keep them coming! Respond here with any questions: there's no question too general OR too specific!
...OK, onto what I'm digging this week.
XO,
Molly
FOR BASE MILES: A 50% OFF DEAL ON SADDLE, SORE
I have a deal on this week for the Kindle version of Saddle, Sore: Ride Comfortable, Ride Happy right now... so if you haven't gotten a copy for yourself yet, now's the time... Or if you know a new cyclist in your crew, this is a great gift idea (did you know you can gift Kindle books?! Game-changer.)
CYCLING CAPSULE WARDROBE
Since I talked about doing a Kondo-style cleanout of your gear last week, it seemed like a good time to talk about the few pieces of cycling kit that I think every cyclist should build up into a capsule collection that can handle almost any type of weather. (Personally, I love a cycling jacket, but I personally think it's the piece that's the most commonly mistaken for necessary.) Read the full list here and LMK if you have any favorite things that I missed!
THE 'PERFECT' QUESTION
Something I've been mulling over and working on writing about, and I'd love your feedback: Have we gone SO full circle on the whole 'perfectionism as an excuse' thing that we're using it to cover our tracks when we're just feeling lazy or unmotivated? I feel like every time I put on a self-development type podcast, it's all about how our fear of not being perfect is keeping us from doing things, but TBH, I think my main limiter is a lack of motivation/general laziness. Anyone else getting a little tired of the 'perfectionist dilemma?'
SPREAD THE SHRED GIRLS LOVE
Less than 100 days until Shred Girls: Lindsay's Joyride hits shelves! If you pre-order Shred Girls, email me the receipt and I'll send you a signed Shred Girls postcard + Shred Girls bike frame stickers... and if you share it with a friend, let me know and I'll send you even more stickers!!
ON HOSTING ATHLETES
If you're in the endurance sport world, the odds are good that you've at some point had an athlete stay with you, or you've stayed at a host house over the years. If you are someone who regularly has athletes crashing at your place, you're an angel and we love and appreciate you! I struggled with how to write this piece on how to be a stress-free athlete host because I didn't want it to seem as though you need to do anything specific to host an athlete and be an amazing person, but there are a few easy/free things you can do to make their stay better and your life a whole lot easier. (Ahem, a toilet plunger is high on the list.) Check out the whole article here and I'd love to hear if you have any hilarious hosting stories. I once had to rappel out of a window with tied-together sheets. True story.

ABOUT SHRED GIRLS: Lindsay's Joyride
An empowering new series from the cyclist who runs Shred-Girls.com is guaranteed to give readers an adrenaline rush--and the confidence girls gain from participating in sports. It's time to ride and save the day!
Lindsay can't wait to spend her summer break reading comics and watching superhero movies--until she finds out she'll be moving in with her weird older cousin Phoebe instead. And Phoebe has big plans for Lindsay: a BMX class at her bike park with cool-girl Jen and perfectionist Ali. Lindsay's summer of learning awesome BMX tricks with new friends and a new bike turns out to be more epic than any comic book--and it's all leading up to a jumping competition. But some of the biker boys don't think girls should be allowed to compete in BMX. Now it's up to Lindsay, Jen, and Ali to win the competition and prove that anyone can be great at BMX.
