THE OUTDOOR EDIT NEWSLETTER
Hellooooooo!
I really can't believe that the Christmas season is over (and that it's New Year's Eve!). I admit, this is my favorite time of year for totally cliche reasons. I love when we get to be home for Christmas and I can lounge and enjoy Christmas movies and my sister's amazing baking (she made me donuts!!!!). But then, I love the turnaround that comes right after the holidays in the form of New Year's Resolutions and a chance to hit reset on everything. For athletes, it's usually pretty optimal, honestly: we get to take a Christmas off-season, followed by the start of base season in January, a chance to focus on healthy habits after taking a break. LOVE it. I'm lucky that we're coaching an endurance camp for some of the fastest young riders in Canada out in LA for the next 10 days, so I actually got a bit of a forced reset and I am so stoked about it.
Just a reminder, If you pre-order Shred Girls, email me the receipt and I'll send you a signed Shred Girls postcard + Shred Girls bike frame stickers!
So, let's get to it so you can get back to New Year's prep!
XO,
Molly

What's Your One-Word Resolution?
I just posted mine today: In 2019, my one-word resolution, the resolution that defines my goals/plans for the year, is BRAVE. (You can read all about it here.) I really like this style of resolution because unlike making a huge list of goals that I'll be likely to forget by February, it's really nice to have one single word to come back to. I also have a specific list of goals, because I love my lists, but it's really useful to have one that's all-encompassing and a simple mantra to remember.
Do You Know How to Be a Good Guest?
I LOVED this article on the Adventure Journal, The 13 Commandments of Leave No Trace Couch Surfing. If you spend a lot of time as the guest in someone's house, this is a must-read. If you've had less-than-stellar guests, I recommend sending this anonymously to them. (To give you a taste, #4: "Bring your own shampoo. And everything else. It’s your friend’s house, not the Hampton Inn. Think if you had a friend staying over and you noticed the cap was left off your toothpaste. Makes you wonder what your bar of soap has been up to, doesn’t it?")
Seriously, Those Resolutions
It's resolution season and as you may have guessed, I freaking love it. I also really love diving into what other people are doing for resolutions, the science behind resolution-making and keeping, and how to better design resolutions that are manageable and achievable. To that end, I have A TON of articles on the subject. Check out the full list here and read one or two that stand out to you—and please let me know what your resolutions for the year are!!
REI is Having a Bonkers Sale!
Need some gear to make those resolutions happen? REI is having a super good sale right now and there are some crazy deals on a few of my favorite pieces of gear, plus a couple that I definitely, positively need. Here are my top picks.
Budget Vacations
You're probably not booking a vacation anytime soon... but then again, maybe your resolution for 2019 is to travel more. If that's the case, a) I highly recommend Santa Teresa in Costa Rica, and b) even if you're not into Costa Rica as your vacation destination, I have some recommendations on how to go on a budget-friendly adventure!
