Meet Some Real Life Shred Girls!

BMX, CX, MTB? We've got it all.
Meet These Real Life Shred Girls
Hey everyone!
I know lots of girls are waiting to see what happens to Lindsay, Ali and Katie when the first Shred Girls book comes out next year, but in the meantime, I'm super excited that Shred Girls has expanded to include some awesome real-life Shred Girls from all different cycling disciplines. On the website, we've gotten some amazing advice from professional BMXers and cyclocrossers, new mountain bikers, coaches, and tons of young girls who are getting rad, making friends and having fun. It's a great time to be a girl in cycling, whether you prefer racing on the road, playing on your old mountain bike, or practicing wheelies on your BMX.
In case you've been missing it, check out a few of my favorite Real Life Shred Girls lately, and some of their best advice... And scroll down to find out how to nominate a Shred Girl you know to be featured!
See you soon!
-Molly (& Lindsay, Ali and Katie)

Real Life Shred Girl: Sarah Dinel, Ultra-Rad Freestyling, BMX-ing 18-year-old
"My tip for talking to new people is to not over think it. Everyone is at the skatepark for the same reasons and for the most part, everyone likes to have a good chat with a fellow BMX rider. Also, I find it easier for me to start a conversation with other BMX girls and it seems to be the same for all the other girls i met through this sport. We are such a small community so we are always happy to meet other girls sharing the same passion!"

Real Life Shred Girl: Ellen Noble, Silver Medalist at Cyclocross World Championships
"Ease into it! Start with just rolling off a curb. Get up the courage, nail the small trick. Then find something a little bigger. Understand as you level up, so you have the confidence. Once you have that, go for it. (And I crash all the time. Don’t be afraid of falling down.)"

Real Life Shred Girl: MTBer and CXer Samantha White, AKA Cycling_Sammy "Use the attack position by keeping your butt off the seat and back, your heels bent, and your head up while looking down the trail!"

Real Life Shred Girl: MTBer and Cyclocrosser Lily Peck
“Use Happy Watts! One of my former teammates would always tell me how much faster you are when you are relaxed and having fun on a course. For someone who is known for getting very anxious and stressed before and during races, this advice was always super helpful for me. It gives me a little mantra to think about when I’m in the middle of a race or just a hard interval session, and reminds me to always just enjoy the ride."

Real Life Shred Girl: Charlotte Batty, MTBer and Cycling Advocate
"There were a few things I found difficult about being a competitive mountain biker, but the hardest part was diet. I was a bit heavier than your average teenage female and so it always felt like I was in a battle with myself to eat less calories and try to lose those couple extra pounds. I guess I have my raging sweet tooth to thank for that. Unfortunately I can’t say that I moved past this constant fight until I gave up competing altogether. I still to this day struggle with my body image, but I have learned to embrace what healthy looks like and what curves are. The best piece of advice for other girls on this, is to NOT compare yourself to others. You are uniquely you."

About Lindsay's Joy Ride
Lindsay lives in a world of superheroes—except, that world is in her head. She wants more than anything to become a hero, reading comic books as research materials and training by fighting her teddy bears for practice. She’s even got the perfect arch-nemesis: her cousin, who pretty much has to be a supervillain. Will Lindsay be able to defeat Phoebe, or will her cousin’s evil plan come to fruition? ...Or, will it turn out completely different?
When Lindsay’s parents take off for an archaeological dig—such a comic book cliche!—Phoebe takes her young cousin in for the summer. But instead of menacing the world and robbing banks, the punk rocker-turned bike racer brings Lindsay along and into the world of Joyride, a bike park where kids really can fly.
Shy bookworm Lindsay will still have a chance to save the day, but only after meeting Ali and Jen and learning to ride—and how to make friends and stand up for herself. Everyone can be a superhero, but it’s a lot more fun when you’re not alone. And now, the Shred Girls are going to take the cycling world by storm. Pedal along for Lindsay’s Joy Ride, and get ready for more action-packed adventures that don’t stop when the bike race ends.
